DB Options: Auto Create Incremental Statistics ON

In this video we cover the next database option which is AUTO CREATE INCREMENTAL STATISTICS. This option is useful when the database has partitioned tables. It allows the DBA to update stats by merging the updated stats for the partition in question with existing stats. In this way DBA are able to reduce the overhead of updating the stats on large tables. If not enabled an update to stats will require resampling on the entire table even if historical data has not changed. This results in wasted resources since we don’t gain any new info for old records that have not changed. Even if your database doesn’t contain partitioned tables it is advisable to enable this feature since it causes no harm when tables aren’t partitioned but provides benefits when tables are.
